Start with a place

A warning needs to identify the area that deserves attention. A person responsible for a forest sector or a campsite boundary should be able to understand where the observation came from. We are designing Velaya Cloud to show observations in the context of the territory.

Give the person enough context

The time of an observation and what happened around it can help someone understand the warning. The interface concept brings a map, observations and recent events into one view. The examples on this website show the information we intend to present. They are not readings from a working installation.

Keep human assessment in the process

A possible sign of fire needs checking. A warning should help the responsible person assess the situation and follow the procedures for that place. Velaya is being developed as an additional source of information. It does not establish who should respond or replace the site’s emergency arrangements.

Learn from the people on duty

Forest managers and people running sites near woodland will bring different needs to a future pilot. We want to understand who would review a warning, what they need to know and how they would record the outcome. If these questions are part of your work, your experience could help shape the project.
