EARLY WILDFIRE DETECTION

Earlier warning.
More time to act.

We are building Velaya to help the people protecting forests recognise the first signs of fire and act sooner.

A global mission. A journey we are just beginning.
OUR MISSION

Forests everywhere. People at the heart of protection.

THE PROJECT

Forest sensors for earlier wildfire warning.

Velaya is developing small sensors that observe the air in forests for possible signs of fire. The aim is to give forest managers a warning tied to a location, so they can check the situation sooner.

We are building the sensor prototype and an accompanying platform, Velaya Cloud. Local testing comes next, followed by a field pilot once the prototype and site are ready.

HOW IT WORKS

From forest air to the crew on duty.

The system is intended to turn an observation in the forest into a warning with a location and context for the team on duty.

  1. 01

    Observe the forest air

Small sensors are intended to recognise changes in the surrounding air that could indicate a fire.

  2. 02

    Locate the observation

Associate the observation with its position in the monitored woodland.

  3. 03

    Show the context

Bring the location and recent observations together in Velaya Cloud for review.

  4. 04

    Notify the responsible team

Give a person the information needed to check the situation and follow the site’s response procedures.

WHAT WE ARE BUILDING

Velaya Node and Velaya Cloud.

We are developing a sensor for the forest and a platform for the people who look after it. Aerial observation is a longer-term idea.

OBSERVATION IN THE FOREST

Velaya Node

Prototype development

A small forest sensor being developed to observe changes in the air close to the ground. Each observation is intended to be associated with a location, helping the responsible person identify where to check.

INFORMATION FOR THE RESPONSIBLE TEAM

Velaya Cloud

Interface prototype · in development

A platform in development for reviewing forest observations on a map. We are designing it to help a person examine a warning, see recent events and record what happened after a check.

A LATER DIRECTION

Velaya Vista

Future concept

A future concept for viewing a forest area from above and supporting people on the ground. We will explore this direction after testing the ground-based system and understanding the practical need.

WHAT THE PERSON RECEIVES

What a wildfire warning should tell you.

A useful warning needs a location, a time and enough context to decide what to check. This is the information we are designing Velaya Cloud to bring together.

WHERE IT COULD HELP

Early warning for forests and the places beside them.

Forest managers, municipalities and people running sites near woodland face different questions. These are the settings we want to understand through future pilots.

Illustrated use cases
01

Forests and municipal woodland

Could sensor observations help the team responsible for a forest sector decide where to look? A pilot would assess that question alongside installation and maintenance needs.

02

Campsites and rural stays

How would a warning at the forest boundary reach the person on duty? We want to understand how it could fit the site’s existing safety procedures.

03

Property at the forest edge

Which nearby areas need attention, and who would review a warning? Those questions would help define a pilot with the people managing the property.

THE WORK NOW

Build the prototype. Test it before a field pilot.

We are developing the forest sensor prototype and Velaya Cloud. Local tests are the next step towards understanding whether the observations can support a useful warning.

HELP DEVELOP VELAYA

Bring your forest experience to the project.

We want to hear from people who manage woodland, care for places beside it or work in wildfire research. Your experience can help us define what a useful pilot should test.
